Pray About It

Like every other post I’ve written for Songs of Waiting, I realized that there is so much information and I’ll have to write more posts on specific pieces of each topic. This will be a general post about prayer, but I pray it encourages you.

Prayer is so important. We know that. We’re told over and over to pray from church leaders and God Himself. We see crazy things happen in the Old Testament after people prayed. Jesus prayed a whole lot. And Paul tells us to pray about everything, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” – Phil. 4:6 (NKJV)

If you’re serious about not having sex until you’re married, you need to pray about it. You need to get serious before the Lord and present this to Him. I know that this is so rare and very difficult to do in this day and age, but you need to know that it is possible, and it’s God’s desire for you to not give your gift away. He wants you to present it to your spouse, and He will help you do this. This is why it’s so important to present this specific request to Him.

Prayer is our communion with God. It’s our time to not only talk to Him, but to let Him talk to us. As we position ourselves, meaning as we get serious before Him, to communicate with Him, without distraction and with complete transparency (He already knows what’s going on, but we have to allow Him to do something about it), He’ll show up. I don’t mean only in that moment, but when we’re considering a new person to date, or on the date, or even as we’re about to cross that boundary line, He’ll show up. He’ll give us wisdom, discernment, and strength.

God is attentive to our cry. He hears the prayers of those who trust Him. When you present this to God, you’re telling Him, “Lord, I trust You to help me stay on the path of purity.” There’s going to be temptation, yes, but God always provides a way of escape, and you choose which way to take.

I know a lot of people don’t take purity this seriously, and I know some people think I’m way out in left field with this, but purity is so special and incredibly important to me. Not only do I desire to go about it God’s way, but I also want to help others understand that they can too. So if it’s important to you, seek the Lord and stand confident on Him.

If there is one thing I want you to get out of this post or SOW in general, it’s this: the Holy Spirit is your helper, and He’ll empower you through this. Romans 8:26 tells us that the Spirit helps us in our weakness and makes intercession for us. By the power of the Holy Spirit, you can do this!

See you next week!

Love, Sarah Lynn

Heavenly Father, I thank You for being present in our lives. Thank You for taking our cares and being attentive to our cries. Help us seek You as we walk the path of purity. Give us wisdom, discernment, and strength. We put our trust in You. In the precious name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Due to my new work schedule, SOW posts will be moved from 3pm (Mountain Time) to 6pm!
