Our culture is obsessed with sex. Society pushes it and throws it in our face. It’s running rampant in our adults and our young people. And all the advice we give them is to remain pure. “Don’t conform, kids,” we say, but when we do that, we are blindly shooting the arrow and hoping it hits the target.
Purity has been heavy on my heart, and I’ve felt a strong leading from the Holy Spirit to share my journey of waiting. By the grace of God- I mean it, all by God- I have waited and I am waiting until marriage. I want people to know that they can do it too.
Until recently it had just been me and God through most of this, because it’s not necessarily something I want to shout from the rooftops. It’s awkward and uncomfortable; so personal and special. But even then, I wish I would have had someone helping me out. Someone who knew what it’s like to be in the waiting, and willing to give advice. Not someone who waited, is now married, and giving the rest of us advice.
So here I am. My prayer for Songs of Waiting is that it will encourage young people in waiting, inspire them to wait, and help them believe that waiting to have sex until marriage is possible.
